On Friday 23rd April 2021, 70 of the UK’s most inspiring artists and designers have been selected to represent British Fashion, and stand beside Dame Zandra Rhodes, in an endeavour to save one of the UK’s most important museums, and to stand up for the future of creative arts.
The Fashion and Textiles Forever Auction will be hosted on Instagram at handle @hollyfoxleeuk Each designer or artist has pledged one special item, to be auctioned live over the course of 3 weeks; at it’s end on Weds 12th May all proceeds raised will go directly to The Fashion and Textile Museum.
As the only museum in the United Kingdom showcasing contemporary fashion and textile design, The Fashion and Textile Museum has played a huge role in the local community since it was founded in Bermondsey back in 2003 by Dame Zandra Rhodes. Over the years I have been one of many professionals who have benefitted from the Museum’s remarkable resources, and I know many of you have too. It is a museum that allows us to continue engaging with our passion.
With no government funding the Fashion Textiles Museum has lost a massive 80% of its income during the pandemic. Despite this, the dedicated team have worked exhaustively, redeveloping their exhibition programme, launching online and ondemand digital events, creating an extensive online shop, and producing more digital content than ever before to support learning throughout lockdown. Despite their recent crowdfunding efforts, the Fashion and Textile Museum still have so much to recuperate in order to continue presenting engaging exhibitions, educational courses, talks, events and workshops for everyone.
The Fashion and Textiles Forever auction showcases works from ceramicists, painters, fashion designers, illustrators and interior designers representing the true breadth of the Museum’s influence on our creative industry.
Artists including: Zandra Rhodes, Wallace & Sewell, Pam Hogg, Matty Bovan, Bethan Laura Wood, Alice Pattullo, Melissa White, Gergei Erdei, Shutter Hub, Kingsley Walters, Aud Van Ryn and many, many more have generously agreed to contribute works. So, if you are able, please join me in sharing this important fundraising campaign to keep Fashion and Textiles Forever.
