Charity Launches ‘Donate a Day’ Campaign to Fund Palliative Care Nursing

After the success of their previous ‘Donate a Day’ campaign in 2019, Welsh charity City Hospice is hoping to relaunch its fundraiser in a bid to support the important day-to-day work of its 14 Clinical Nurse Specialists.

The campaign has been inspired by a growing need for palliative care in the community during the pandemic.  Cardiff-based City Hospice has seen an increasing number of patients and their families requiring the charity’s support, with nursing staff continuing to provide vital care on the frontline throughout each national lockdown.

The ‘Donate a Day’ campaign is asking its supporters to find new, fun ways of raising money to fund a day of nursing.  A donation of £150 will pay for a day of nursing care and make a huge difference to the lives of patients and their families.

The charity suggests that supporters choose a date that’s special to them, such as a birthday, to sponsor a City Hospice nurse. The selected day will feature on the charity’s online calendar and social media to celebrate the care that the fundraiser has provided.

Liz Andrews, Chief Executive at City Hospice, said: “Our incredible nursing team provide vital care, ensuring that patients and their families have the chance to create special memories during difficult times.

“As the need for specialist palliative nursing increases, we hope to encourage people to join in with our ‘Donate a Day’ campaign to celebrate the lives and memories of their loved ones while funding a day of our City Hospice nurses’ time so we can continue to provide important care in the community.”

The hospice cares for people with terminal and life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, dementia, motor neurone disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and is the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the Welsh capital.

As well as end of life care, City Hospice also provides counselling and support services for the families of their patients, expanding their bereavement service to support people in Cardiff, Bridgend and parts of Rhondda Cynon Taf as a result of the pandemic.
