Holiday Prize Draw Raises Funds for Retired Police Dogs

Dog lovers and their canine companions could win a holiday by entering a special prize draw to raise funds for a charity that supports former service dogs in their twilight years.

Emma and Simon Oliver, who run a host of dog-friendly luxury Somerset holiday cottages, have offered the prize worth £1,000 to benefit the WAGS charity after they adopted two ex-police dogs named Sutra and Cube.

“We have been so lucky to have two ex-police dogs come to live with us,” said Emma. “It’s been so enjoyable watching them slowly relax into civilian life after their years of doing their job. We feel very privileged they have come to us.

“When we offered to re-home Sutra, we were contacted by WAGs who said they would be there for us if she or Cube ever needed large scale clinical care. It was enormously reassuring to know that someone would be there to help if we needed it.”

WAGS Retired Police Dog Charity is an independent charity set up to help retired Police Dogs from Wiltshire, Avon and Somerset and Gloucestershire Police. Police Dogs spend their working lives detecting crimes and can become involved in dangerous situations or face injuries. WAGS assist those families who adopt retired police dogs with large vet bills, to give these brave dogs a happy and healthy retirement.

The prize package up for grabs is a three-night weekend stay or four-night midweek stay at Quantock Cottage which also boats a private hot tub, outside bar and open fire.  And of course, the lucky winner can take their pooch with them to enjoy the prize.

“This is the ultimate dog holiday spot,” added Emma. “We are positioned on the edge of about 9,000 acres of open moorland, with so many magical walks to discover, as well as dog-friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants and the coast is just a mile and half down the lane.

“We look forward to welcoming the winners of our prize to enjoy the magical surroundings here and spending some quality time with their four-legged friends.”

To enter the prize draw, visit the competition’s website, where tickets are available to purchase at £5 each.

The prize is redeemable between 2022 and the end of 2023 for periods January through to March 31 and November 1 to December 15, with some exclusions.
