How are you coping with the cold weather? And how is your facial skin faring? There’s little we can do to influence the weather, but we have so many options to protect our skin especially the soft and tender facial skin. Unfortunately, our faces remain mostly exposed during the cold while we can cover up the other parts of our body with warm and comfortable clothing. So you should make an extra effort to protect your facial skin from the cold torture.
Effects of the cold weather on your face
Let me start by stating that there are some benefits of the cold on your facial skin. The pores on your face become tightened, and there will be fewer experiences of puffiness during the cold period. But the extreme weather especially cold weather could cause excessive dryness, itching, and irritation, cracking, etc. You don’t want to experience any of these conditions, so I will give you some useful tips. They will help you properly care for your skin during the cold.
These tips may require you to change your regular skin care routine, but it is only because of the climate change. You can resume your normal skin care routine after this horrific cold period.
Wash your face with lukewarm water
The effects of warm water on your skin increases blood flow which nourishes your facial skin, and it also keeps the skin pores on your face open to prevent clogging.
Moisturizing your face
It is essential that you keep your facial skin well moisturized during the cold period. There are facial creams that have been enhanced with olive oil and almond oil to ensure that your face is protected from the harsh cold weather. Moisturizing your facial skin will keep it glowing all through the cold period.
By regularly cleansing your face, you can successfully keep your facial skin pores open and free from clogging. Clogged facial skin pores could lead to irritation, itching, and swelling, and I am sure you don’t want to experience these conditions with the weather so cold.
Drink enough water
You should make an extra effort to drink enough water to ensure that your skin is healthy and you remain hydrated during this period. The cold will cause your skin to dry up but ensuring that you are hydrated in addition to other skin care tips will prevent this from happening.
Check your make-up
Look great and beautiful with awesome make-up; the cold weather doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use makeup but avoid heavy applications that could clog your skin pores. For this cold season, your choice of makeup should be light to allow your facial skin pores “breathe.”
Eat Healthy Meals
While there are many skin care products we can use to protect our facial skin during the cold weather, it helps to support the body’s internal rejuvenating functions which also promote skin health and glow. So eat foods that nourish your skin.
The cold weather should never give you “the chills” because of its potential effects on your skin. There is a lot you can do to keep the glow on your face. The tips I have recommended above work, and you will be pleased with the results.
