Brits will be buying more takeaway meals until the Christmas period is over – with 31% claiming they’re too busy to pull together a meal from scratch.
A poll of 2,000 UK adults found that 50% will spend more than usual on their favourite takeaway food this December.
Over a quarter of us will take the easy option and opt for a takeaway over home-cooked food when entertaining guests in the run-up to December 25. While 30% admit that they simply like to treat themselves more at this time of year.
The findings were released after a survey by frozen pizza brand Chicago Town, who reported that treating others is the main motivation for buying takeaways at this time of year. But for 24% it is the convenience of visiting the chippy, while 17% know they’ll be tired and not want to cook over the next few weeks.
59% say that they simply love getting food to eat at home, with the average British adult ordering a takeaway at least once a week.
However, more takeaways can have an impact on the pocket – and we spend on average £23 on each eat-at-home order – making it harder to stick to a budget this time of year. The cost of the festive season can also affect the mood of adults, with six in ten admitting that the financial pressures of Christmas can make them feel unhappy.
To help takeaway fans save money this Christmas, Chicago Town has created an online calculator designed to save shoppers around £20 per week by changing some simple meal options. View the calculator online at the Chicago Town website.
Thrifty influencer and pizza fan, Gemma Bird, has partnered with Chicago Town and said: “My family and I switched our usual Saturday night pizza takeaway and we were blown away.
“We worked out that we could save as much as £150 over the next five weeks.
“Christmas is such a magical time for everyone, particularly families but money troubles and making ends meet, particularly right now can give many of us sleepless nights.
