Things were looking bleak for the Ponsanooth Village Stores in Cornwall not so long ago, but after being closed for almost a year as a result of flooding, the business has bounced-back in fine style. The village shop and post office is the recipient of The Countryside Alliance’s award for Best Village Shop of 2016.
The owners of the business, used the necessary refurbishments to transform the establishment, and in the words of the Countryside Alliance’s Tim Bonner it has become “an Aladdin’s cave of local gorgeousness”. The shop stocks a big range of local produce as well as gifts and a comfortable cafe area has provided a focal point where locals can meet up and chat whilst doing their shopping.
Michelle Firminger, who runs the business with partner Ben, was magnanimous in accepting the award: “It’s an award for the whole village, not just us, because without the support and care the village has shown over the years we really wouldn’t be here.”
