It’s been a while since I’ve shared something foodie with you. It’s not through a lack of options, it’s more a lack of willingness to share things that don’t seem special enough to give the attention to.
This feature reaches a lot of people (thank you for reading it!) and because of this I receive a lot of emails, and a lot of offers to send me products or invite me to dinner. Do I sound ungrateful? I don’t mean to, I just know that I am the conduit between the company and the consumer, and therefore I have a responsibility to you as the reader – I only want to share things that I genuinely think are worthy of your time and money too.
Recently I’ve been working on a project where I came across Davenport’s Chocolates. A small family business, based in the north east of England, working with classic techniques and developing interesting flavours with a regional twist. So, please let me introduce you to them, because I think they’re worth talking about!
Davenport’s specialise in gift boxes of handmade chocolates that celebrate traditional and nostalgic flavours, I can vouch for the Brown Ale and the ‘Singing Hinny’ truffles, and I’ve heard great things about their violet creams and raspberry fruit jellies.
Right now I’m here to share the Gin and Tonic Easter Egg. Well, not share exactly… it’s all mine!
An extra thick creamy milk chocolate shell, with 9 Gin and Tonic truffles inside. It’s a beautiful thing to behold. Well packaged (it arrived unaffected by the postal service) and impressive in its appearance.
Each Easter Egg shell is double moulded by hand, making the thick chocolate even more enjoyable to eat. The ganache truffles are made with delicious Hepple Gin (The Hepple estate sits at the heart of the Northumberland National Park, one of the cleanest, wildest and most remote areas in England) and are worth savouring every mouthful.
I wouldn’t say I was an Easter egg connoisseur, but I have eaten my fair share, and I would put this Davenport’s egg on the top of my pile.
Davenport’s Chocolates also have 5 other flavours of Easter Eggs: Strawberry & Champagne, Creme Caramel, Artisan Praline (vegan), Natural Spring Salt, and Cinnamon Toffee Apple. All available in two sizes: Large (350g) RRP £20 and Standard (220g) RRP £12.
I’ll be back soon with some more Foodie Finds to share, until then, if you’ve got something you think we should know about, please get in touch… please send magnificent things that are worth talking about!
