McDonald’s is extending an offer it launched last year to give NHS workers 20% off all food items on its menu to say thank you for their hard work and efforts throughout the pandemic.
The burger chain has announced that the deal, which was first unveiled in July 2021 and was due to finish at the end of the year, will now be available to NHS staff until the end of 2022.
The NHS Discount Offers scheme says NHS staff will qualify for the discount when ordering online via the McDonald’s app.
To benefit from the deal NHS workers must sign up for the McDonald’s app with their NHS email address. 48 hours after registering, the offer will appear in the deals section of the app. The 20% off deal can be used once a week and will refresh every Monday.
David Bater, marketing executive at NHS Discount Offers welcomed the extension of the deal: “This is a great start to the New Year for NHS staff who work in difficult and testing conditions all year round. Staff members take advantage of this money-saving offer from McDonald’s as you can make significant savings.
“It’s a really kind gesture from this well-known UK brand and its great news they’ve extended the offer until the end of 2022”
The fast-food chain first launched the deal on July 19, 2021, to coincide with ‘Freedom Day’ as a gesture of thanks to frontline NHS heroes for their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.
The 20% discount was a new scheme launched last year to replace one that gave away free drinks to NHS staff. All NHS, council and emergency service staff were eligible for the freebie, which was also launched as a thank you to hard-working state employees. To qualify, staff had to show their work pass at their local restaurant or drive-thru branch to receive the free hot or cold drink item from the menu.
All McDonald’s restaurants are currently open for dine-in and takeaway. Alternatively, customers can order via the drive-through, McDelivery and click & serve options using the brand’s new app in association with Uber.
