Father Christmas is Going Online this Year

Even Santa will be practising social distancing this Christmas—but that isn’t stopping him from seeing the nation’s children in the run up to The Big Day!

There are several ways that families can greet Santa from the comfort of their own home during the lockdown, using video calls and virtual technologies.

Santascallingyou.co.uk is offering families the opportunity to book a video call with the man himself, with guest appearances from Mrs Claus and an elf.  The call lasts 10 minutes and prices start from £24.99 depending on when you schedule the call time.  The website also offers options for schools – including a class session with Twinkle Toes the elf or story-time with Mrs Claus.

The virtual Santa service was created by actor James Bartlett who could see a gap in the market for other performers who have lost work due to the pandemic. Speaking to the BBC, Bartlett said “Nearly 400 applied for acting roles and we are still looking for more Santa’s.”

The virtual calls will include some additional details such as names of pets and presents of the children’s wish lists to make it truly personalised.

Another company hosting virtual Father Christmas events is Wonder Adventures, who are offering a live ‘Santa Comes To Tea’ experience for £12.99. Hosted via a private Facebook group, children will get a shout out from Santa during the 40-minute session.

Santa’s Lapland is also offering video calls, as the company which usually arranges trips to meet Father Christmas has adapted their offering due to current lockdown measures. These calls are more expensive at £85—but includes a virtual tour of the grotto and a meet and greet with the reindeers for up to 4 children.

If you want to save the excitement of meeting the man in red until Christmas Eve, you can book a 10 minute slot at santasgrotto.live to discuss any last-minutes additions to wish-list and hear Santa read ‘Twas the night before Christmas’.

Christmas may be shaping to be different this year, but with a little sprinkle of magic (and technology!) your little ones need not miss out on meeting Santa.
